The
indigenous forest at Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve is
most noteworthy and the largest remaining example in the
Langeberg.

A large variety of animals
may be seen.

The area is particularly rich
in birdlife and birdhides do exist for viewing.

The source of the Duivenhoks river is in the
Langeberg mountains close to Heidelberg. The
river then flows past Heidelberg and
Vermaaklikheid to the sea at Puntjie. |

The mountains are full of some of the most
pristine fynbos you can find in the Western Cape. |

The Breede river
mouth is at Witsand only about 35km from
Heidelberg. Witsand offers excellent fishing and
beautiful beaches. This is the whale nursery of
Southern Africa and offers some of the best whale
watching in the country. |

A unique wilderness area exists in
the Langeberg mountains close to Heidelberg. The
Boosmansbos Wilderness Area is 14200 ha. There
are 64km of paths, and hikers may choose their
own routes. |
